Albania’s trade deficit widened to ALL 46 billion in October 2024, up from ALL 41.5 billion in the same month of the previous year. Exports plunged by 15.2% year-on-year to ALL 31 billion, weighed down by lower sales in construction materials and metals (contributing -8.2 percentage points), textiles and footwear (-3.5 percentage points), and minerals, fuels, and electricity (-2.9 percentage points). Notable declines in exports were seen to Kosovo (-24%), Italy (-13.6%), and Spain (-4.7%). Meanwhile, imports fell by a softer 1.5% to ALL 77 billion, mainly due to decreased purchases of construction materials and metals (-3.3 percentage points), minerals, fuels, and electricity (-1.0 percentage points), and textiles and footwear (-0.8 percentage points). Imports from North Macedonia (-17.6%) and Italy (-3.4%) also saw significant drops. From January to October, the trade deficit widened to ALL 426 billion from ALL 358 billion in the same period last year.
