Albania’s trade deficit narrowed to ALL 29 billion in January 2025, down from ALL 30.4 billion in the same month of the previous year. This marks the smallest trade deficit since January 2023, as exports rose by 4.9% year-on-year to ALL 31 billion, with the largest contributions coming from minerals, fuels, and electricity (+13.0 percentage points), food, beverages, and tobacco (+0.5 percentage points), and machinery, equipment, and spare parts (+0.3 percentage points). Among trading partners, the countries with the highest increases in exports were Kosovo (+91.6%), Spain (+86%), and Greece (+2%). Meanwhile, imports grew at a modest 0.1% to ALL 60 billion. Gains in minerals, fuels, and electricity (+1.67 percentage points) and food, beverages, and tobacco (+1.65 percentage points) were largely offset by a decline in construction materials and metals (-3.3 percentage points). The highest import values were recorded from China (+45.4%), Italy (+5.9%), and Greece (+2.1%).
