Australia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate inched up to 4.1% in March 2025 from a downwardly revised 4% in February, but below market estimates of 4.2%. The number of unemployed people increased by 3 thousand to 613,900, with those seeking full-time jobs climbing 11.2 thousand to 422.6 thousand while those looking for part-time jobs fell by 8.1 thousand to 191.3 thousand. Meanwhile, employment rose by 32.2 thousand to 14.54 million, missing forecasts of a 40 thousand gain after a revised 57.4 thousand fall in February. Full-time employment advanced by 15 thousand to 10.01 million, and part-time increased by 17.2 thousand to 4.53 million. The participation rate edged up to a four-month high of 66.8% from a downwardly revised 66.7% in February but below forecasts of 67%. The underemployment rate stood at 5.9%. Monthly hours worked in all jobs dropped by 6 million to 1,965 million.
