The National Bank of Georgia kept its key interest rate steady at 8% for the sixth consecutive time during its March 2025 meeting. Inflation in Georgia has remained below the central bank’s 3% target since early 2023, with headline inflation at 2.4% in February and core inflation at 2.0%. Meanwhile, the country’s economic activity appears stronger than initially expected, with preliminary data showing 11.1% growth in January. Policymakers also acknowledged rising global uncertainty, particularly due to evolving tariff policies in international markets. Given the current macroeconomic conditions and risk assessments, the central bank has considered it optimal to adopt a cautious approach toward further normalizing the policy rate, keeping it unchanged.
