Employment in Australia increased by 56.3 thousand to a fresh peak of 14.58 million in December 2024, easily beating market estimates for a 15 thousand gain and significantly quickening from a downwardly revised 28.2 thousand rise in the previous month. Part-time employment surged by 80.0 thousand to a record 4.55 million, a strong reversal from a revised 21.2 thousand decline in November. However, full-time employment shrank by 23.7 thousand to 10.04 million, reversing a downwardly revised 49.5 thousand gain in November. Through the year to December, employment grew by 444.4 thousand or 3.1%.
