Employment in Australia increased by 44.0 thousand to a new high of 14.63 million in January 2025, easily beating the market consensus of a 20 thousand gain. This followed an upwardly revised rise of 60.0 thousand in the previous month. Full-time employment surged by 54.1 thousand to 10.09 million, reversing a 23.7 thousand decline in December and marking the largest increase in six months. However, part-time employment decreased by 10.1 thousand to 4.54 million, reversing an upwardly revised 83.7 thousand jump in December. Through the year to January, employment added 498.3 thousand or 3.5%.
