Lithuania’s trade deficit sharply widened to EUR 0.653 billion in December 2024, nearly doubling from EUR 0.327 billion in the same month the previous year, driven by a decline in exports and an increase in imports. Exports fell by 9.4% year-on-year to EUR 2.618 billion, while imports rose by 1.7% to EUR 3.271 billion. For the full year of 2024, the country’s trade deficit totaled EUR 4.667 billion, with exports decreasing by 7.7% and imports by 7.8%. The drop in exports was primarily due to lower sales of mineral products (-14.2%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (-13.6%), and products of the chemical and allied industries (-11.2%). Meanwhile, imports were mainly affected by reduced purchases of mineral products (-18.9%), machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical equipment (-17.5%), and products of the chemical and allied industries (-2.2%).
