Malaysia's economy grew by 4.8% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024, slowing from a 5.3% expansion in the previous quarter, flash data showed. This marked the lowest growth rate since the first quarter of 2024, primarily driven by a notable slowdown in manufacturing (4.3% vs. 5.6% in Q3), while output contracted in agriculture (-0.6% vs. 3.9% in Q3) due to lower oil palm production and forestry and logging activities. Meanwhile, the services sector continued to expand (5.3% vs. 5.2%), supported by strong performance across all sub-sectors, particularly wholesale and retail trade, as well as transportation, storage, and information and communication. Additionally, the decline in mining and quarrying eased (-1.4% vs. -3.9%) as natural gas production increased marginally. On a seasonally adjusted basis, GDP grew 2.5% in Q4, easing from an upwardly revised 4.6% expansion in the previous quarter.
