The S&P Global Russia Composite PMI dropped to 49.4 in September 2024 from 52.1 in the previous month. It was the first contraction in private sector activity since June and the steepest pace since December 2022, owing to a decrease in manufacturing production and a slower rise in services output. Total new orders expanded the least in the current 20-month sequence of growth as manufacturing new orders shrank while services new business only showed a modest growth. Employment increased fractionally amid a quicker reduction in backlogs of work. A slower pace of job creation at services firms coincided with a renewed contraction in manufacturing workforce numbers. On the price front, cost burdens rose at a faster pace due to sharper input price inflation at manufacturers and service providers. Firms opted to pass through higher costs to customers, as selling prices also went up at a steeper rate.
