Spain posted a trade deficit of EUR 5.13 billion in November of 2024, nearly unchanged from EUR 5.14 billion in the same month the previous year. This marked the largest trade deficit in a year, as exports fell by 6.4% year-on-year to EUR 32.6 billion, mainly due to lower shipments of capital goods (-12.2%); automotive products (-13.5%); and energy products (-28.7%). Among Spain's key trading partners, there were notable declines in exports to the European Union (-8.7%), the United States (-17.2%), and Latin America (-2.6%), while exports to China increased by 11.9%. Conversely, imports increased by 1.3% to EUR 37.8 billion, largely driven by purchases of chemical products (+5.2%); food, beverages & tobacco (+4.2%); and non-chemical semi-manufactures (+7.6%). Imports increased primarily from Latin America (+32.8%), the UK (+8%), the US (+7.6%) and, to a lesser extent, China (+1.7%).
