Industrial production in France declined by 0.6% month-over-month in January 2025, following an upwardly revised 0.5% drop in December and defying forecasts of a 0.3% increase. This marks the fifth consecutive period of declining industrial activity and the steepest contraction since last May, driven by lower output across all subsectors. Manufacturing output fell 0.7% after a 1% decline in December, mainly due to decreases in the production of coke and refined petroleum products (-1.7%) and machinery and equipment goods (-1.9%). Additionally, output declined in mining and quarrying, energy, water supply, and waste management (-0.2% vs. +2.2%) and in construction (-3.8% vs. +1.8%). On a yearly basis, industrial output dropped 1.3% in January.
