The annual inflation rate in the Philippines slowed to 2.1% in February 2025 from 2.9% in the previous two months, pointing to the lowest reading since September 2024. The latest result was less than market consensus of 2.6%, as prices moderated mainly for food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.6% vs 3.8% in January), housing and utilities (1.6% vs 2.2%), and restaurants and accommodation services (2.8% vs 3.2%). At the same time, transport costs declined (-0.2% vs 1.1%). On the other hand, inflation edged up for information and communication (0.3% vs 0.2%), while it remained steady for recreation, sport, and culture (at 2.4%) and education services (at 4.2%). Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes selected food and energy items, eased to 2.4% from 2.6% in the preceding period. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.2% in February, reversing a 0.5% gain in the prior month.
