Austria's annual inflation rate eased to 2.9% in March 2025 from 3.3% in the previous month, according to preliminary estimates. “This means that inflation is once again approaching the ECB’s 2% stability target. Prices for services rose by 4.2% over the course of the year, remaining the main driver of inflation. We are also seeing above-average price increases of 3.2% in the food, tobacco and alcohol sector, while energy prices rose at a below-average rate of +2.2% compared to March of the previous year. Here, lower fuel prices partially offset the rise in electricity prices" said Statistics Austria Director General Tobias Thomas. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.2% in March, marking the lowest reading in six months, following a 0.6% increase in the preceding period.
